Amy Sharrocks

February 2, 2017

Amy Sharrocks and I have the same aim: scream and let everybody know that water is life. She is collecting water from all over the world, building a museum of waters important to donors. We want to remember you that water is precious, scarce, excessive, torbid, drinkable, solid, fun, erotic, dangerous, slippery and blue.

Life, death and all the washing up in between.

A play by and with refugees about the jungle: Calais.
Borders and refugees.
Water as border.

T. S. Eliot: What the Thunder Said

Here is no water but only rock
Rock and no water and the sandy road
The road winding above among the mountains
Which are mountains of rock without water
If there were water we should stop and drink 335
Amongst the rock one cannot stop or think
Sweat is dry and feet are in the sand
If there were only water amongst the rock
Dead mountain mouth of carious teeth that cannot spit
Here one can neither stand nor lie nor sit 340
There is not even silence in the mountains
But dry sterile thunder without rain
There is not even solitude in the mountains
But red sullen faces sneer and snarl
From doors of mud-cracked houses
If there were water

And no rock
If there were rock
And also water
And water
A spring 350
A pool among the rock
If there were the sound of water only
Not the cicada
And dry grass singing
But sound of water over a rock 355
Where the hermit-thrush sings in the pine trees
Drip drop drip drop drop drop drop
But there is no water

Coleridge: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner

The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew,
The furrow followed free;
We were the first that ever burst
Into that silent sea.

Down dropt the breeze, the sails dropt down,
'Twas sad as sad could be;
And we did speak only to break
The silence of the sea!

All in a hot and copper sky,
The bloody Sun, at noon,
Right up above the mast did stand,
No bigger than the Moon.

Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.

Objects provoke conversations

How do you tell the story of people who move and they get to a place and they think the journey's over but then they have to move again
